Broccoli 'De Cicco'
Brassica oleracea var. italica
Not your average broccoli. A mutli-cut Italian heirloom that's been passed down for generations (at least since the 1890s), prized for it's sweet flavor. I used to grow full-head broccoli, but I never loved the amount of space it took up for the return. Then, a few years ago, I started growing sprouting broccoli, and everything changed! Closer spacing than regular broccoli and a longer harvest window of tender shoots that look far more sophisticated on the plate. I love throwing them on a hot, cast-iron skillet with a glug of olive oil.
This variety can be grown to produce a 3–4" central head with good side shoot production to follow. More about De Cicco from Johnny's:
A traditional Italian heirloom variety producing small, avg. 3–4" main heads projected well above the foliage followed by a large yield of side-shoot spears. Nonuniform in maturity, resulting in a long harvest period. Longer harvest period than other sprouting broccoli varieties, with more variation in shoot size. Pinching recommended to encourage heavier side-shoot production.
Packet contains approximately 75 seeds.
