Kale 'Nero di Toscano'
Brassica oleracea
A miraculous plant from Ancient Italy! While kale reached peak popularity as a "health trend" in the early 2010s, it’s been cherished for centuries. This specific variety, Nero di Toscana, also called Tuscan Kale or Lacinato Kale, has been cultivated since at least the early 1800s. This Italian heirloom is a staple in Tuscan cuisine, frequently found in hearty soups and stews, like the famous Ribollita. With its deep roots in Italian culinary tradition, Nero di Toscana continues to be celebrated today for its rich flavor and impressive nutritional benefits.
Health trend or not, kale is one of my favorite plants to grow! My sister even got me a KALE t-shirt (that looks like a college retro Yale t-shirt), HA!
