I love this one for personal reasons.
Scroll through the photos and you’ll get a better glimpse of him. In this handful of blooms, ‘Brother Chuck’ peonies are in the middle (surrounded by ‘Bianco Sfumato’ ranunculus, ‘Duchesse de Nemours’ peonies on the left, and the pink ‘Pillow Talk’ peony on the right). Whenever I harvest for weddings, I always set aside the very best for the bride. That’s what you’re looking at here: my “best of the best” handful.
I adore this peony because it’s the perfect blush. Not too cool (like so many peonies can be) and not too yellow either. Before it fully opens, the buds have this distinct soft green halo that makes it easy to identify during harvest and in storage (a little detail I’ve come to love). Honestly, it’s one of my all-time favorites, and I basically grew it by accident!
Years ago, I planted ‘Brother Chuck’ just because, well, I have a brother-in-law Chuck😂. He and my sister are two of my favorite people in the whole wide world, so I tucked him in right next to ‘Pillow Talk’ (for her). I'm weird, I know, but I'm also literally being dead serious, lol. I only planted a few of this variety, but it has became one of my all-time favorites, so I had to add more!
Every year, I share a portion of our wholesale peony order. These are exceptional quality roots supplied by Groot & Groot, family-owned and premier grower of cut peonies and peony roots. G&G produces cut peonies in the Netherlands, Italy and South Africa. These are all large roots, at least 3–5 eye. We are proud to be able to offer these beautiful roots to cut flower growers! I aim to bring in gorgeous peonies at a variety or price points (some forever favorites and others that are exceptional and still in limited quantities). Some varieties will not be available every year, as they are simply what I am adding to our farm for that particular season :)
