Radish 'French Breakfast'
Raphanus sativus
Everyone on the farm loves snacking on radishes! First photo: Bottom left is Pink Beauty and Top Right is French Breakfast (my two favorites and the only radishes I continue to grow year after year). These little gifts from nature are extremely easy to grow, cold hardy, fast to mature and pack a ton of nutrients. Especially wonderful for small spaces, you can squeeze in radishes just about anywhere!
Ready in just 21 days, French Breakfast has a long history. Thought to have been first cultivated in 17th-century France, although the exact origin is somewhat unclear. It's traditionally paired with butter and a dash of salt and makes a gorgeous addition to any Crudités Platter.
Packet contains approximately 150 seeds.

Direct sow starting in early spring. Sow 3/4–1" apart in 2–3" wide bands, and rows 1' apart. For longer, straighter French Breakfast radishes, sow 15–20% more seeds slightly deeper than round radishes, and do not irrigate unless absolutely necessary.
Harvest
Harvest promptly to avoid pithiness, beginning at about 3-4 weeks when roots are the size of a large marble. Bunch or top, immerse in cold water, dry and refrigerate. Topped radishes will keep 3–4 weeks in good, crisp condition if kept at 32°F, 95% humidity, in breathable packaging.
